Monochromatic looks have always been fashion’s favorite. But this season, the runway staple is now stronger than ever and has been reworked in extra-special details and super-luxe pieces with extravagant embellishments. We have received this gorgeous piece from Clements Ribeiro. The stunning black embroidery against the white fabric is so intricate in detail and makes this piece a dazzling choice for a formal lunch or an evening reception. Opt for accessories of the same color in simple designs to offset the embroidered details.

Our first appointment was at Bodyamr. This season he had a full on runway show to showcase his collection of fluid jerseys, dramatic draping, and crystalized panels. he worked a lot with layering using lace under a chiffon or sometimes a dusty pink under a sheer black to create depth. I even loved the way he used a single sleeve completely encrusted in crystals to throw off the balance of a simple shaped dress.

We then went on to Proenza Schouler at their art gallery showroom. The collection had their fabulous print in yellows, green/blues, and pink tones all done in babydoll silhouettes with netted yokes and buttoned down fronts. They did a few pieces that had corresponding paillets in the same print as the fabric and it was just stunning. they even produced gorgeous paint splattere jeans with J Brand which were just so chic! Their new PS1 was done in a Navajo weave in black and turquoise- to die!

Our last stop of the day was to Christian Louboutin showroom. Their collection was amazing! I want their fur wrapped bootie that belted around the ankle and calf, and their ridiculously gorgeous Oxford-esque heels done for the Philip Lim catwalk, they also had their classic riding boot in a cuilio hue embedded entirely with gold studs! I mean, this is one of their strongest Fall collections, and I am crazy excited for all of you to see them and fall for them too.

The weather has warmed up to a perfect temperature (if only it was like this through the summer) and I know a lot of you are enjoying outdoor dinners and lunches these days. As I scoured the AlOthman RTW Outlet for you, I found this darling Vera Wang Lavender dress in a beautiful multi-colored design with flower applique at the bust.

This dress would look lovely paired with a plain white cardigan and some nude heels. Check out the detail shot showing the flower applique:

Enjoy!

Our day was packed with our fresh new young designers. The first stop was at the most exciting of our recently added brands, Carven. The collection is absolutely beautiful, and at extremely good price points. I adored the knotted front taffeta dress (seen above) and their soft oversized cardigans. I am extremely excited for this brand, I would love every piece to be in my wardrobe. We are expecting pieces for the Summer very soon, will let you know as soon as those come in!

We then went to the stunning showroom of Preen. This Parisian flat belongs to a couple who use it only a few weeks of the year, and therfore rent it out for the rest of the time. It was modern, with artwork everywhere, and incredibly beautiful architectual details such as revolving shelves, and a television embedded into an entire wall of bookshelves. Of the fashion, it was just as beautiful. we gathered pieces both from their main line as well as their beautiful cotton jersey creations from their diffusion line. They know how to make a dress reach that point of sexy right before trampy, and I love it.

We then went to see the collection of quirky designer Erin Fetherston. The collection had lots of chiffon printed dresses, some with flutter sleeves, others with fitted transparent ones, but all at a very 70’s mid calf lenth. I adored her version of an ivory lace dress with she left with a scalloped hem and desfined waist. And truly fell for her charming little songbird print, see below.

On our way home we past some photographers doing a fashion shoot. Here is a snap from the car in the middle of Place de la Concorde.

A shout out for all of you who have already taken part in our Fashion Buyer for a Day Challenge- you see how many designers I see- I need your help! Please send your choices from the Marios Schwab collection in to us soon.

I found this cool short film by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte.
“Guinevere van Seenus stars in Aanteni, a high-fashion techno-thriller from CFDA award-winning design sisters Rodarte, shot by their friend and frequent collaborator, the photographer and video artist Todd Cole. Set in the deserted grounds of Paypal founder Elon Musks Space X jet lab in Hawthorne, California, the film was inspired by the pioneering spirit of the space race..”

Whew! The last two days have been a complete whirlwind that I haven’t had a chance to fill you all in! We started our day yesterday at the impressive showroom of Oscar de la Renta. The collection was a mix of colorful cocktail dresses, printed fabrics, layered coats, and metallic beadwork. As always, the collection was elegant, yet modern and chic. Just lovely.

Our next stop was to Roland Mouret. He had his show two days prior and we were visiting just to add some showpieces that were added since our last buy. I fell mad for his supersized sequin scales that he created on minidresses in a deep aubergine and a silvery blue as in the show. He is definitely one of my favorite designers- a big personal order pour moi from this collection!

We then went on to see Tia Cibani’s Ports 1961. We were quickly offered a delectable box of fresh macaroons from the famous Parisian patisserie Angelina’s, delish! The collection was just as yummy with pieces such as liquidy draped jersey dresses, black webby lazer cut coats, and beautiful shades of rosemary and plum. I truly love this brand, they do absolutely everything with class. They gave me their collection on a USB which was entirely made out of bamboo! Amazing.

We went out to dinner with the Marchesa girls at Le Petit Pergolese which was incredibly scrumptious. I had their lobster salad with truflle infused dressing, while we gossiped about the best and worst celebrities who borrow pieces from the collection. Some incredibly well known stars returned gowns with cigarette burns and tears all over- no respect to such beautiful creations, shameful!

This morning we started out at Matthew Williamson. The collection is taking a turn for more sophistication which is a very positive route. They had a chain rosebud applique done on cardigans, a stunning minty sage color on knits, and my favorite piece which was a fully embellished rust gown that had such an abstract pattern that it looked stunning on the body. I even fell for their kaftans which they did in a yellow/purple palm print with black and white embellishment running right down the neckline. Very fresh!

Our next stop was to review fashion newcomer Prabal Gurung. Needless to say, we fell mad for both him and his work right then and there. His pieces had a definite elegance yet in a young organic manner. He used a lot of folds, ruffles, and contrasting colors. I especially loved his white and black body con dress that was studded in crystals. Amazing. Another great part of the appointment? His apartment looks right into the Chanel attelier! so, yes, I did spend several minutes spying into their space from across the street.

We then went to see Carolina Herrera. Let me tell you this- the collection was so unbelievably beautiful! It was so incredibly gorgeous, that we begged them to ship a few gowns as early as possible in order to have them for our clients sooner! Stunning stunning stunning.

Our last stop of the day was for Derek Lam at the George V. As always, their floral arrangements were nothing short of spectacular! The collection was fun, with tones of cowboy chic as well as futuristic cool. He had leather patches on his coats and pants, zigzagged fur, and draped silks. The two closing gowns were my favorite pieces of the collection, because although they were quite Grecian inspired, they fit in perfectly with the collection. I also loved his frill sleeved minidress, super fashionable!

We ended our day by having a lovely dinner with close friendsat a famous restaurant in Paris. A few minutes into our meal, Kate Moss saunters in to take a seat. She was dressed in her greyish toned jeans, a black slinky long sleeved top tucked in, a brown leather belt, short boots, and a fur coat on top. Nothing exceptional about her look other than that fabulous face that she has. I would’ve taken a photo for you, but by the end of the meal she was getting quite loud and rowdy, so kept my distance.
A whirlwind two days, with a few more days to go!
Time for some sleep now- XXX.
The Spring/Summer collections we are receiving now at AlOthman are have a new and easy femininity to them. One clear trend is the return of prints. Dazzeling floral and graphical prints in eye-catching colors create the season’s most beautiful pieces, especially when the prints are used on simple and clean-cut silhouettes like Derek Lam’s floral shift dress and David Szeto short sleeves belted dress which we have just received in-store. Just remember to keep the hair and make up simple and don’t be afraid to mix and match.

We are having another fabulous edition of “Fashion Buyer for a Day” to give you a feel of the exciting world of fashion buying and get a special treat from AlOthman in return.

It’s surely refreshing to find an endless number of stunning gowns on one red carpet event, and that’s exactly what happened at the Oscars last night. I was utterly blown away with the pieces glamorizing the stars and the red carpet that I couldn’t hate any (Let’s just say that I have learned to become immune to Mariah Carey’s red carpet choices).

It didn’t take me long to spot some trends that the stars embraced on the red carpet. Striking ruffles were apparent in many gowns, including Demi Moore’s blush confection with cascading ruffles and Vera Farmiga’s column Marchesa gown with exaggerated accordion pleats. Some stars bloomed the Oscars with their Floral printed gowns, whether it was Maggie Gylenhaal gliding in her vivid avant garde frock or Rachel McAdams sweeping in her romantic pastel Elie Saab gown. Other stars chose to light up the red carpet with their Full on sequined looks, just like Nicole Richie’s heavily embellished vintage style frock, Amanda Seyfried’s icy crystal encrusted ball gown, or Cameron Diaz’s Oscar de la Renta golden stunner. Two of my favorite stars, Zoe Saldana and Diane Kruger, chose to go for highly Dramatic skirts through Zoe’s purple ombre gown and Diane’s frilly piece.

As for designers, I believe it was Marchesa and Elie Saab who have had the most presence on the red carpet. I must however express my disappointment for not seeing more of Monique Lhuillier’s gowns, I feel that they’re the most suitable for such a Hollywood event. To make matters worse, I found out that the only star who went for her design was Kristen Stewart. I don’t care how many Vampire movies she stars in, but this girl does not belong on the red carpet! Well I guess I shouldn’t complain much because she actually did look decent this time in this custom made Monique gown.

I hope you enjoyed the Oscars as much as I did!

For today, the appointments were largely based on gowns. We started the day at Naeem Khan, who used a lot of gold and metallics in his collection as well as tulle. The pieces were extremely dramatic and the embroidery was paired with fleeting feathers to create an additional texture and depth. He also used quilted and embroidered fur gilets to modernize and compliment the gowns coming down the catwalk, they were beautiful, but unfortunately not all that suitable for our market.
Our next stop was to the ever glamorous Marchesa. The cocktail dresses were flirtatious yet fun and chic. She used organza, suede, and feathers in her collection, as well as ribbon bows to compliment waistlines. There were three stunning pieces that were missing from the showroom since they were out in LA for the Oscars tonight- lets see if anyone wears them!

Our next stop was to Maia N to see their new collection. I was shown the brand new colors for the season and they are gorgeous! Crocodile done in bright fuchia and turqouise, matte crocodile in an ombre caramel color, and a fabulous clutch done in abstract black swarovski crystals and bright cansy pink python. She also had her madly successful leopard printed python on display which I’m sure youve seen on the arms of Rihanna and Jessica Alba in the press.

After a lovely lunch with the Maia N girls, who said they saw Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis lunching there the day before, we were off to see Monique Lhuillier. The collection as always was filled with color and elegance. I particularly loved a gold metallic ballgown with a sweetheart neckline, cascading ruffles, and a black corded belt. This is one piece to wear to make an unforgettable entrance!

Our last stop of the day was to review the collection of Lela Rose. Once again, she remained true to her design aesthetic creating wearable silhouettes in all the colors of the rainbow using slight patterns, embellishments, and pleating to create interest.

I got quite exhausted by the evening, so I stayed home to rest, and missed out on an undeniably wonderful dinner with the Carolina Herrera team who invited us to a very notable Morrocan restaurant. I enjoy their company very much and am looking forward to seeing them in october for dinner and at the appointment this week.
Bon Nuit!
