Sadly, the fashion world lost a treasure recently, in the death of Anna Piaggi.
The eccentric Italian fashion journalist, was iconic in the way she dressed. Vibrant hair and make-up, loads and loads of accessories, masses of hats, and the most outrageous of outfits.
She also played as Muse to Alexander McQueen and Karl Lagerfeld.
She was the subject of a fabulous exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London of all her personal collections of fashion.
She will be remembered and referred to for years to come. Rest in Peace.

One of our favorite new designers, Huishan Zhang‘s couture dragon dress has been selected to be exhibited at the V&A‘s permanent collections in the T.T Tsui Gallery. The dragon dress was inspired from the transformation of the traditional Cheongsam and dragon robe.

Graduated from Central Saint Martins London, Huishan was a pioneer with embracing Chinese culture and traditions while using Western influences and techniques.
Congratulations Mr.Zhang! Your success is our success!

The quirky London Fashion Queen and dear friend of AlOthman has just gotten a brand new extremely enviable position: Editor at Large of Love Magazine.
I’ve always been a big fan of the magazine, particularly the fun and vibrant covers.
Can’t wait to see what she will do with the magazine going forward.
Much ‘Love’ and support coming your way from Kuwait.
You can find her line Lulu & Co. soon at AlOthman.

” A lot of people underestimate conflict and tension and look at it as a negative thing, I feel exactly the opposite. That comfort is so overestimated. It’s the death of creativity or new ideas.”
Prabal Gurung talking about exploring the tension between the two poles of edgy and soft in fashion.

We wish it was for his own line, but it’s actually for French shoe brand Robert Clergerie. He has been officially appointed as the new creative director of the brand, and has reportedly directed ad campaigns for them before. We are already huge fans of his clothing designs, so there’s no telling where he will take this lucky Parisian shoe brand. Roland Mouret‘s first shoe collection for Robert Clergerie is to be revealed for Fall 2012, and we’ll be watching.

We love Derek Lam‘s classic silhouettes and designs from his main collection, but could he be giving us more to look forward to? It seems everyone is buzzing about a 16-piece capsule collection that the designer has just launched on eBay. Rachel Bilson hosted a party to celebrate the eBay collection in NYC wearing one of his floral pieces. She is pictured with the designer below, along with actress Rose Byrne and Zoe Kravitz. Apparently an actual Derek Lam diffusion line is in the works for next year. This has been reported on Women’s Wear Daily, and we should expect to see it somewhere around the Resort 2012 collections. No dates are confirmed, but judging from his eBay capsule collection, this could be a beautiful complement to his main line.

The name on everyone’s lips for this iconic Parisian fashion house used to be Christophe Decarnin, but now that he has stepped down the new name to look out for is Olivier Rousteing. The designer is only 25 years old, but he has already been working in the industry for seven years. He started at Roberto Cavalli and stayed there for five years before moving on to Balmain as Christophe Decarnin‘s trusted colleague since 2009. The French-born designer’s efforts will first be revealed in the Spring 2012 collection, and all eyes will be on him. Olivier certainly looks the part, but will he live up to the expectations that come with this powerful brand? Only time will tell.

Anyone who is anyone in the fashion industry is quite familiar with the name Nicola Formichetti. He is the Fashion Director of Vogue Hommes Japan, Uniqlo, the fantastic styles of Pop sensation Lady Gaga, as well as newly appointed Creative Director of Thierry Mugler.
After just unveiling his Mugler Menswear collection in Milan last week, he is on his toes for his Paris presentation of Mugler Womenwear for Fall 2011. We all await with high anticipation for what he will design.
In a recent interview, he gives clues to his new venture with insight such a:
“I’m not here to re-create what [Thierry Mugler] did. It was perfect for the time. I’m going to do something for today and the future . . . I want to give dreams and fantasy and all those things — and I want people to wear those clothes.”
Taking on the rebirth of famed fashion house Thierry Mugler is no easy feat, but with help on his side such as the visions and inspirations of close friend Lady Gaga, I am sure he will be a huge success. Saying of her input:
“It’s me and her just having fun and getting very inspired from the idea of Mugler. She’s very much involved, more in the early stages.”
As always, AlOthman is on top of the newest designers and most interesting ventures, and we can’t wait to bring to you the Thierry Mugler collection for Summer 2011 and the Nicola Formichetti designed Fall collection as well.

After the mad success of the Olsens first line The Row, they are looking to expand their creativity by adding Accessories.
To be launched as early as Fall 2011, they will be launching both a handbag line as well as shoes.
In my head- I expect it to have the same clean yet structural elements that are found on the accessories of Celine or Givenchy.
But the best part of fashion is that you never know!
