What a fox!

Amanda Shadforth, fashion blogger to the famous Oracle Fox is one of my many favorite bloggers to follow. Simply because she constantly has an interesting not-so-simple -yet-not-so-over-the-top feel to all of her outfits. I feel she is one of the very few who can really pull of the “I really look like I didn’t put any effort but I did and I look fabulous.”

Here latest outfit captured the usual essence of her carefree look. Donned in a T by Alexander Wang, leather shorts, wrap scarf, Alexander Wang back pack and the infamous Isabel Marant Bekket sneakers.

Chit Chat with Rachel Zoe

We have had the pleasure to interview the one and only Rachel Zoe and we would like to share her answers with you! Enjoy!

Flashback to a year ago to the date nearly, moments before your very first collection debut for FW11. How were you feeling? Could you anticipate the reception to come?

Words cannot describe how I was feeling – anxious, nervous, excited. I could never have anticipated such an incredible reception.

You’ve described your pieces ‘instant[ly] chic’ and ‘easy glamour,’ to name a few. Could you elaborate on that in a few words?

The collection is all about wearable yet glamorous fashion – it’s for women who love fashion and aren’t afraid to take risks. It’s easy chic. Like the sequin cardigan for example – throw it on over a printed dress or with white denim and a printed top – not only is it incredible versatile, but it will instantly change any look. That’s what the collection is all about – versatility, accessibility, ease and of course, glamour.

The RZC is relatively extensive and aesthetically diverse, your designs & accessories cater to a broad range of style identities. Was this intentional?

Yes. I wanted to make sure there was something for everyone and I am inspired by so many different people in my life, all with very different styles. It also speaks to my overall aesthetic – I love to mix and match different silhouettes and elements from different decades, for me that’s half the fun of fashion.

The 60s & 70s seem to be strong sources of inspiration to you, from musical preference, personal style to your own designs. What aspects of this era do you find most appealing?

Everything! I love anything mod from the 60s – the prints, colors, shift dresses, gogo inspired boots. I’m also completely obsessed with everything from the 70s – the menswear inspired suiting, maxi’s, wide leg pants, platforms and sequins. I’m honestly inspired by everything from the fashion icons, magazine spreads, movies and music.

Jane Birkin, Briggite Bardot, Bianca Jagger, Edie Sedgwick… Would it be fair to say that you designs cater to the modern day archetypes of these style icons?

I think so – at least that’s what I am going for. I really just focus on incorporating different elements from each icon – that’s what is so great about each collection, you can truly mix and match each piece to make every look your own.

Roksanda Ilincic Trunkshow at AlOthman

Central St. Martins graduate, London-based Serbian designer Roksanda Ilincic will be visiting us today at AlOthman from 6-9 pm for a trunk show of her Pre-Fall 2012 collection. In anticipation to her visit we will be dedicating today’s post to her.

Grew up in Serbia, after different attempts to become ballerina and inspired by theater costumes, Roksanda decided to take up fashion design and studied at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Serbia. After reading about Louise Wilson and Central St. Martins, she decided to continue her studies in London where she later met her husband. While studying for her MA she was offered modeling jobs and worked as a model for Storm agency up until her graduation.

Known for her elegantly cut and colorful dresses, Roksanda‘s designs sky-rocketed with popularity among many fashion-forward celebrities and socialites. Her label initially started as womenswear but is currently expanding to include swimwear and childrenswear (after recently having a baby daughter).

For her upcoming pre-fall 2012 collection, Roksanda Ilincic took her inspiration straight from home. She took inspiration from Legos and transformed them into bright colors of vivid red, acid yellows and electric blue while maintain geometric shapes to her pieces such as trapeze dresses, toned-down cuffs and peplums and also column dresses.

Come join us today and meet the statuesque designer with the live trunk show of her Pre-fall 2012 collection from 6-9 pm at AlOthman!

Fashion Quotes

We have been inspired recently by some very fashionable quotes from our favorite designers and would love to share them with you! Enjoy!

Congratulations Victoria!

We were overcome with joy and excitement this morning when we found out that last night one of our favorite and prominent designers, Victoria Beckham, has won Designer Brand of the Year award at The British Fashion Awards. It was a close call for Victoria since the other nominees were Stella McCartney , Tom Ford, and Burberry. The emotional and teary designer said: “It means an enormous amount to me. It’s something for the kids to take to school for show-and-tell.”

Congratulations Victoria! Your success is our success!

Kane and Oh So Able

00340m-1

Reading InStyle, I came across a fabulous interview with Christopher Kane.

The designer, whose first collection of a multitude of neon bright body con dresses that had me jetting off to Browns for the trunk show in a heartbeat, has been one of my perpetual favorites ever since. (That story didn’t end up so great as I had a very diffucult time squeezing my curvier Arab body into these stick figure samples, when I finally got the crystal zipper pulled up, it looked far too revealing, so I did go home empty handed, but with a fluttering feeling of having one of his masterpieces on my back for those few fleeting moments).

Since he has learned to dress women even more spectacularly particularly with his flared leather skirts, organza scalloped edges, and biker jackets.

His latest fall collection has a definite emphasis on lines. When asked his inspiration, he claimed-

“At college, I did life drawings with black markers-they were realy clean, but there was a demented undertone. I wanted to simulate that in these dresses.”

Some of the other interview questions:

If Christopher Kane was an item of clothing, what would it be?

“Something tailored like a beautful Savile Row jacket or a Fifties Couture dress-I’d love to think of myself as being as tailored and perfect as that. I’m not, but that’s my dream.”

What are your signature elements?

“I find something beautiful in things that are a bit wrong- I like to do the opposite of what’s expected with fabric.”

Why do you love powerful women?

“I’m just a girl’s boy- i think they have so much more to say and so much to give. My whole studio is full of girls, I don’t really like boys in there- they just mess up the dynamic and want to be the boss.”

Christopher Kane’s Fall collection will be available at AlOthman within the next month.

Getting to Know Alexander

alexander-wang04

He loves to be in the drivers seat, music blasting, singing his lungs out, while moistening his throat with an ice frosted coffee. This is the image Ryan Corban portrays of his longtime friend, designer Alexander Wang.

With his lengthy strands coiled up in a bun, Corban remembers Wang‘s obsession with fashion while they both were students at Parsons. His scheduling skills, his punctuality, his tidiness, and his talent are all characteristics that define him.

Recollecting a memorable visit to Shanghai, accompanying Wang to watch his mother perform at a nationwide Ballroom Dancing Gala; he reiterates that Alexander Wang is an extremely skilled and wonderful human being.

I love to learn about designers, about their history, and personal traits. For me, realizing the passion they have for their clothing, is what makes me love their brands more.

I hope you enjoy this article as much as I did.
