With all the new statement heels rage off and on the runway, the only way to go this season seems to be higher and higher. But realistically, how practical are these beautiful creations in the real world when we go mall hopping, family bonding, and chalet chilling.

Jennifer Lopez, one of my favorite stars (and fashion idol every now and then) was spotted in what I can only call a sensuous Marchesa dress.  She managed to perfect the look with her Christian Louboutin ‘Carnaval’ black stain peep-toe heels with black leaf embellishment at the rear.

I know that Miss O previously mentioned that these Louboutins are hard to pull off, but I have to say that the more I admire these mystical heels the more ensembles I can envision looking tremendously elegant with them!

The Christian Louboutin ‘Carnaval’ shoes are now available at AlOthman in fuchsia (with black embellishment).

We will soon be receiving them in canary yellow (with black embellishment) and in blush (with embellishment in the same hue).

Fall-owing Trends

One of my style Bibles- style.com, wrote an interesting article recently. It was their rundown of the top ten trends that were seen throughout the Fall fashion season and are must have to upgrade any wardrobe. As the buyer, my fingers were crossed that I had picked up at least half of these trends for AlOthman- and low and behold I had picked up more! Success! Let me highlight some of them for you all to look forward to:

1- Something Faux: We have selected the uber cool crocodile-printed leggings by Roland Mouret as well as a dress and cardigan in the Alligator-printed fabric. They have a sheen which is oh so hot too!

2- Over-the-knee Boots: We have bought several pairs by shoe guru Christian Louboutin, thigh high pairs that have a slouch effect in rich colors such as Russo (a deep red) and Natural (a cashew color). We have also selected thigh high pairs in a delicate soft leather in basic black for those who want to rock the trend in a subtle manner.

4-Color: The bright reds and fuschias from Marios Schwab‘s collection will highlight this trend. As well as the outrageously beautiful bright lipstick color gown by Roberta Furlanetto.

5- Something Draped: The exact definition of BodyAmr‘s aesthetic. For fall he has created draped jerseys, chiffons, and silks with an obvious 1940′s twist.

7- A Strong Shouldered Jacket: Darlings, we have the epitome of this trend with our wide selection of Balmain dinner jackets. Take a risk.

8- Something Surreal: The inspiration for Catherine Malandrino‘s collection was surrealism. Dresses with wings, eyes, and bejewelled hands all came together for her Fall look. We have picked up into the wings movement, as it was the strongest and so surreal.

10- Something Studded: We have on the way the Alexander Wang studded tuxedo jacket which will entice ooh’s and ah’s by everyone around. As well as Balmain harem pants studded with metal pins and Louboutin pumps with a gold studded toe.

The Fugue in Western Music

I’m trying to broaden my horizon so I’m always on the lookout for interesting happenings in Kuwait. I was pleased to find out that Dar Al-Athar al-Islamiyyah will be hosting a Lecture & recital to be performed by: Stuart Laing & Paul Andrews “The Fugue in Western Music” on today at 7:00 pm. I’m not into lectures. And if I do attend one, that would be the time when I go through my mobile contact list and start deleting and editing contact details of firends and family members. But because this incorporates a recital, so it makes it sound more interesting and appealing to me.

The recital will take place at Al-Maidan Cultural Centre – Abdullah al-Salem School, Maidan Hawalli, Near al Sha’ab Leisure Park. For inquiries, please call +965 25636528 / 25636561.

Spotting Reese

Recently, I was looking back at my photographs from our latest buying trip in Paris and found a shot I think my readers would enjoy.

Out at dinner in a cozy little Parisian bistro Peterelle, we were enjoying the delicious food and the wonderful company in this tiny six table setting. Soon enough, this petite blonde bundled up in a wool skirt, a peacoat, and boots strolls in with a tall man wearing jeans, a lumberjack shirt and a fedora. Now- these two look familiar. It is indeed the Oscar winning actress Reese Witherspoon and her beau of two years Jake Gyllenhaal. Sitting at the table next to us, they looked smitten with each other as they spoke throughout the meal, with Reese regularly throwing back her head in giggles. Sweet and subdued, she accepted we take a photograph of her, as Jake picked up a meringue from the large wooden bowl before they got lost together strolling in the wonderful city that is Paris.

If you already heard enough about the mounting trend of exaggerated shoulders, then I’m here to tell you that it is just the beginning!  Even though Balmain‘s Christophe Decarnin set the trend this Summer season, many other designers have carried it forward in the upcoming Fall runways- where shoulder pads were incorporated into everything from blazers to dresses to tops. 

One star who already embraced the trend is Gwyneth Paltrow, where she was photographed in a creamy Balmain blazer that she paired with a pleated Calvin Klein dress in a matching color.

What is fascinating about such a blazer is its versatility, so you can opt for a soft look like Gwyneth did or go rock-chick fabulousness and sport the blazer with jeans and studded heels-it’s your pick!
