In celebration of its centenary year this May, Selfridges will be bathed in its iconic Pantone 109. Throughout the store, visitors will find many collaborations with influential designers, all created in Selfridges yellow.
A notable mention goes to Giles Deacon’s made-to-order PVC dress and Christian Louboutin’s signature red sole with its new yellow peep toe detail.
Giles will also be performing a DJ set along with Designer Henry Holland at the Big Yellow festival, one of the many events planned for the May celebrations. I’ve actually seen Giles perform live and he had the crowd going wild with his crazy track selections!

White- a chic venue in the chaotic city of Delhi, India celebrated the Kuwaiti designer Tahir Sultan recently. A representation of Summer collections with fellow designer Bian, the night was rated a huge success as Tahir Sultans pieces were “flying off the racks.” The most coveted pieces, his black draped cotton short dresses were the first to go with the rest following soon after.
Tahir Sultan, we can proudly say, is a truly talented man who is making his mark in the fashion industry globally.

To celebrate Barbie´s 50th anniversary, the famous French boutique Colette have asked Alexis Mabille to create exclusive pieces based on Barbie. So Alexis Mabille came up with smart creations using his signature bow ties. One bow tie had ken’s head attached to it, and one designed with blue Barbie shoes. Another Mabille creation was in the form of a hair clip. The bow ties can be worn by boys with shirts and girls as a headband, belt, necklace… etc.
OK, I know that this is one thing that not many people would be able to pull off. But the bow with the blue sandals is irresistibly cute!

Not many people (including myself) were fond of Estelle‘s space-age Grammy look this year. I understand that she is trying to be unique with her style choices, but this silver outburst just doesn’t do it for me. Regardless I couldn’t help but notice and take interest in her Halston silver cut-out boots, though I wish she had worn them with a different colored dress to make them look glam glam glamorous!
Thankfully we have received the boots at AlOthman in a bronze hue which will flawlessly work with soft colored dresses just like the one in the Halston SS09 runway. The boots are available for KD 479.
The latest exhibition at Al Sabah Art & Design is titled Bidoun Ism – Design Virus infects the Middle East! Selected work by Pieke Bergmans.
Pieke Bergmans is a product designer from the Netherlands. Her technique involves hand blowing crystal glass onto furniture. The intensity of the mechanism indirectly burns the furniture while also giving a subtle texture to the glass object.
The result are deformed crystal vases that look like they are melting onto the furniture. A beautiful blend of glass and wood textures!
The exhibition is open to the public until May 5th, 2009. Al Sabah Art & Design is located at Al Corniche Club.

Fred Segal, the boutique in Santa Monica, California, is the shopping destination of choice for most of the celebrities in town. With a popular restaurant attached as well, a day never goes by without a familiar face passing through.
Now Bravo, the channel known for reality shows such as Project Runway, Americas Next Top Model, The Real Housewives, and The Rachel Zoe Project, will be taking over Fred Segal as the location for their latest show. The reality show will focus on the drama of the selling team who deal with A-list shoppers, fashion, and celebrities on their day to day job.
I’m not quite sure how they will keep the interest last after a few episodes. Besides the fact that I feel it to be a little too intrusive for the people who actually are there to shop and not be on camera. Knowing this will keep me far away from the store, and if others agree, this will be a loss that will be to their determent. However, for those out of the fashion circle, it will be a major promotion and advertisement for the store.
I don’t see this as a smart move on their part, what do you think?
