Last night I went to Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah‘s 14th Annual Cultural Evening Reception at the Al Americani Cultural Centre. The center was vibrant and full of energy. Guests had the privilege of viewing presentations of DAI’s past, present, and future cultural activities.
I personally loved the installation of the past & present pictures of AMH. I also really enjoyed learning about the Children’s Art Workshop. It is a program for children between the ages of 8 and 12. The main focus of the program is to expand children’s awareness of art and Islamic culture, using art from the Al-Sabah Collection as a teaching tool.

The first day at Cannes for me was disappointing to say the very least. Elizabeth Banks dressed in an Armani Prive rose colored one shoulder gown with volume across one hip, smoky eyed makeup and finger rolled curls a la Old Hollywood Glamour. How dull. Don’t misunderstand me- I love Old Hollywood, but it should be shaken up, not taken so literally!
Robin Wright Penn showed off a silver metallic Elie Saab Couture gown that also slid sensually off the shoulder. There is nothing wrong with the dress per se- but there is nothing great about it either. Again-unimaginative.
Then Tilda Swinton saunters out in a burgundy Haider Ackerman ensemble consisting of a silk bias cut slinky skirt, matching top, and matching bias cropped jacket. She does look quite elegant, however I usually expect more style risk from this quirky actress.
More to come later today and the days to come. Hopefully the Festival will redeem itself in my eyes.
