Ramadan is a time for personal reflection, worshipping, and for spending quality time with your family and friends. And for those lovely family gatherings and Ramadan’s Ghabgas, one item most women are eager to slip in is the kaftan. Long flowing and loose, kaftans are heaven sent for those who want to eat from every single dish on the futoor table and have desserts with tea right after. So here are some of AlOthman’s chic and glamorous kaftans which we have in-store now.
From top, Mathew Williamson’s printed v-neck kaftan from our new Fall collection, instantly reminded me of Rachel Zoe. It has a cinched waist with a golden brooch to hold it together. Wear your hair loose and wavy and put on your highest platform peep-toe heels for that Zoe-effect. The kaftan is priced at KD 519.

If you’re looking for kaftans with chic embellishments of jewels and beads, Temperly’spurple kaftan from our new Fall collection, KD 479, has a cinched waist styles that offers a feminine silhouette. For a kaftan with bright youthful energy, pick this beautiful Oscar de laRenta embellished kaftan from our Summer collection at a great discounted price.

Dress up your kaftan with chunky bracelets and necklaces. You can team Tahir Sultan’s new kaftan shown below, KD 140, with flat jewelled sandals for casual gatherings or chunky platform heels for more formal ghabgas to balance out the volume.

From the Mughal dabars to the fashion hubs, Churidaar has become an appealing choice for many fashion designers. During the Mughal Empire, this dress was favored by the Indian women for all types of occasions. This attire was considered to have the ability to dress the Indian beauty in the most modest manner.
Churidaars are worn by both men and women. They are basically tight fitting trousers that narrow towards the ankle. The length of the Churidaar is longer as compared to the leg. This excess length falls into folds and appears as bangles. This led to its name Churidaar with “Churi” meaning bangles and “dar” meaning like.
Churidaars are essentially worn with Kameez (fitting over shirt) by women and with Kurta (loose over shirt) by men. This splendid beauty is worn by the Khathak (classical) dancers; when the dancers twirl the leg contour can be discerned.
This majestic garment has walked the run ways in cool earthen colors to mesmerizing vibrant colors. It flaunts in silks, brocades, chiffons, linen etc. The beauty of this royal dress however lies in the fine embroidery or zari handwork.

Even today the essence of the Mughal culture is still depicted in traditional Mughal designs. Hence we can say Churidaar is one part of history which still lives on in India and is in vogue in the fashion industry.

I remember since I was tiny, I would be read the fantastical and sweet story of Eloise and her life living in New York’s Plaza Hotel. It was such an imaginative story that I kept on reading it again and again.
So naturally, I was ecstatic to see that Elle did a photo spread of Eloise “All grown Up”. See photos attached.

To my Horror- Eloise, the naive and sweet girl grew up to become such a…well..tart? I hated the spread! I thought she looked vulgar and as though no thought was put into the fact that this young girl grew up in the ever elegant Plaza Hotel- surely she would have been inspired by the masses of chic women roaming around.
For any of you who know and love Eloise- don’t you agree?

Dressing up with luxurious pieces brings out your inner lady. Take your pick from AlOthman’s brands such as Marios Schwab, Elie Saab, Giambattista Valli, and Issac Mizrahi. From lavish evening gowns to sumptuous cocktail dresses that beg to be noticed. Think bright jewel tones, luxe detailing, and elaborate couture shapes.

With evening gowns taking the centre stage, tone down on your accessories and choose one standout statement piece to complete your look. Show off favorite pair of dangling earrings or go for a dazzling cocktail ring.

Move over Barbie and say hello daaahling to the new Wu doll. In a previous post by Snob O, she has introduced us to Jason Wu’s line of dolls called The Fashion Royalty. The dolls celebrate the glamour and excitement of the fashion industry, bringing in a uniquely diverse collection to the fashion doll arena.
Now, for Fashion’s Night Outwhich will be held in New York on 10th September, designer Jason Wu is creating a fashion doll inspired by his Fall 2009 collection, which will be sold exclusively at Jeffrey New York for $170. I bet Barbie is pinkish green with envy now.

Rihanna has rocked the streets with his 80′s inspired and rock chic ensembles, Beyonce was seen in many of his bold shouldered blazers , and now Madonna is bringing Christophe Decarnin‘s glitzy and body-con designs to her latest color splashing video clip ‘Celebration’. I don’t think that Balmain‘s Fall 2009 collection can get any more buzz than this. Every fashion magazine is parading Christophe‘s designs claiming that he has set the trend for the past two seasons, from front row fashion shows to red carpet to high street wear. I can’t think of a fashionista who doesn’t have at least one of his iconic pieces on her Fall must-have list, whether it’s the bleached jeans, harem pants, sequined mini dresses, or crystal studded boots!
Madonna did seem to bring out the Rock ‘N’ Roll essence of Balmain, but I hope that Rihanna‘s future music videos will feature Balmain outfits because I feel that she fits the brand more than Madonna…. but this is just my opinion!
The Balmain Fall 2009 collection will shortly be arriving to AlOthman .

Topshop has done it again. The most popular high street retailer has signed on yet another world renowned designer to create a small capsule collection to sell in their stores. The latest collaboration is with English prodigy Christopher Kane.
After seeing a preview of the collection, I was so happy that his collection incorporates many of his classic aesthetics such as studding, massive prints, and denim.

I fell madly in love with the black and silver studded leggings in the first photo above as well as the black mesh power booties that the same model is wearing. I also think that the lemon yellow sun dress is super sweet, I’d wear it with a long low slung ponytail and a pair of zebra print pony hair stilettos.
The collection will be available in Topshop stores worldwide by next month.

The ever going trend of celebrity-designer collaborations seems to be evolving from just clothes into accessories and even cosmetics. Lancôme’s Pout-à-Porter, makeup-inspired-by-runway, is back! Previous collabo’s included Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som, and Thakoon.
This time Lancôme has partnered up with Chris Benz to create a shade of lipstick inspired by his Spring 2010 collection. The lipstick will also be donned by the runway models of this collection.

If there is one place I continue to miss in Montreal when I am away from the city it is the Old Port (or Viuex Port according to the locals). There you can find a diverse mix of traditional and modern-chic restaurants and cafes, and the area is filled with art galleries of the most promising artists from Montreal and all over the world. On adjacent streets one can also find exclusive and extremely funky clothing and accessory stores where many of the pieces are designed by local designers.
There is just something about the European-like architecture that gives the Old Port a distinct appeal to tourists and myself particularly. I love walking around the area and admiring every element of it, and I loooove tasting the food there. Even though my trip to Montreal ended shortly I am beyond excited about my next vacation hub, Spain. I will surely be sharing highlights of my ‘oh so sunny’ trip… stay tuned!

We would like to wish you and your families a blessed month on the occasion of Ramadan. And we would like to inform you that AlOthman’s working hours during the holy month of Ramadan will be from 10:30 AM till 2:00 PM and from 8:30 PM till 12:00 PM.
