Je Suis Arrive!

buildings

So, since last posting, a lot has happened. We finished up our trip in Milan, looking at Tomaso Stefanelli as well as Derek Lam. We also got a chance to check out several up and coming designers that were very interesting that we are now deliberating over. We then had a magnificent lunch at Paper Moon, a quick walk around 10 Corso Como and finally rush off to the airport to fly to Paris. After a bite at a charming little French cafe, we woke up bright and early for our first day of appointments in Paris.

Alexis Mabille was our first appointment, and it was the perfect beginning. It was like a fairytale with pastels, lace, bows, ruffles, and feathers. The way he sequinced his show was it to start as a  dream land with colors of little girls tutu’s, soft pinks, dove grey, icy blues, then it slowly morphed into reality with navy’s then to black. I absolutely fell mad for a two piece done in all white lace and cinched at the waist with a beaded belt- something I guarantee Princess Grace would have worn if she were alive today. Absolutely beautiful. Alexis himself was in the showroom as well and was so modest about his stunning collection. Lovely to meet such a talented person.

Our next stop was the ever exciting showroom of Louboutin! The shoe heaven that my heart knows we are approaching as it begins to tap tap rapidly in my body. Four walls of pure shoe obsession. He played more with studs, some masculine shapes, more exposed platforms, lace, bright patents, and some ruffles. The newest and most beautiful story reminded me of Faberge Eggs, they were soft satins in turquoise or apricot pinks that were overlaped with silver or gold caged finishing. They were to die! He also worked with this fabulous fish scale mirror type fabric that just oozed Diva!

And the best part? As we were leaving we were each gifted a little box of Christian Louboutin‘s signature macaroons inside their gorgeous boxes that he designed himself. I write about it several weeks back. A box of freshly made Parisian macaroons after leaving an afternoon of shoe bliss- could I possibly have a better job!?

GaGa Over Balmain

lady-gaga-in-balmain

She’s hot, she’s fierce, she’s Lady GaGa!

The fabulous singer/entertainer really knows how to express herself with fashion and captivate her audience with her looks.  Have we ever seen the star in anything that wasn’t avant-garde, impulsive, or striking? Nope and that’s why we (especially I) love her!

In a recent photo shoot the star donned a gorgeous sequin one-sleeved with a ruffled neckline Balmain mini dress.  I bet if it was up to GaGa she would have paired the cobalt blue piece with some sort of eccentric headpiece or funky glasses to make it a signature look  … I still think she rocked it without the extra effort.  I absolutely adore this color on her!

The Balmain dress is now available at AlOthman.

Moda Moda!

La sua una bella mattina! The sun was shining, my day was packed full of appointments with beautiful clothes, and I had a delicious fresh coffee as well as a kiss on the cheek by a friendly passing Italian man- I could not have felt more in Italy than today!

Our first appointment was at Halston which was filled with shimmer. They have just relaunched their signature fragrance which comes in a silver metallic bottle, they then used this to inspire the entire Summer collection which was full of metallic golds, platinums, and ivories. There were cascades and ruffles, as well as a multitude of jumpsuits including a beautiful one shoulder piece.

On the way out, we saw the ever divine 60′s superstar- Ursulla Andress in the lobby of the hotel. For those of you who shamelessly dont know her- she is the most beautiful Bond girl ever to play the part. Dressed in a black ensemble of black slacks, black boots, a long black sequince cardigan, and her luscious blonde hair bouncing around her still beautiful face.

We then went on to Halston Heritage, which is the new line of Halston that is more everyday and wearable. It is so colorful and bright which was amazing! We were sure to pick up on the few pieces that you’ve already seen Carry Bradshaw rocking on the set of the new Sex and the City.

We were then off to see the Derek Lam collection, which was described by the designer as “A Carnival. Glitter dust. Summer Love. A Summer Fever, Some Bittersweet Memories”. The description could not have been more fitting. There were stars, and florals, and stripes, and color everywhere. It was fun, flirty, with some classic edge- a formula Lam does so brilliantly.

Milanese Ease

Buon Giorno!! I am in the Italian fashion capital of Milano! I arrived early evening  yesterday and immediately slipped on my flat boots and went for a stroll around the city. I walked by beautiful buildings most of which were in these wonderful shades of yellows and pinks and were ornamented with sculptures.

I found quirky little scooters like the one designed with little hearts, spotted gorgeous church’s tucked away in little streets, and my favorite was strolling past a private home and spotting a pond in their garden filled with bathing flamingos! Their parks were strewn with bright flowers and fountains, and the aroma of their food wafts through the streets everywhere. So I’m off now to a day of fashion and will, as always, keep you posted on all of my activities.

These Boots are Made for Walking

ll-in-balmain-boots

Oh yes they are! The Balmain suede boots with multi-buckles on the side are made for you to walk and flaunt that new winter look of yours!  I remember drooling over the pair when I first saw them and I wondered which celebrity would be first seen in them (my first instinct was Rihanna or Kate Moss).  To my unfortunate surprise, it was none other than Lindsay Lohan.  Yeah she be the new fashion director of Ungaro, but I was hoping that someone with more credible fashion sense would show us how the boots can be styled.  Anyway, Lindsay did manage to give the Balmain shoes a laid back-chic look by pairing them with denim shorts, a black t-shirt, and a zipper jacket … but it’s not enough for me!

The Balmain boots are now available at AlOthman.

Louboutin Turns Psycho

Psychologic // Christian Louboutin Film

A few weeks ago, I posted about Erin Fetherston’s short film “Birds of a Fether.” Seems like she wasn’t the only designer jumping on the short film wagon.

To promote the opening of his new Hollywood boutique, Christian Louboutin made a Hitchcock inspired film titled “Psychologic.” The film stars Elisa Sednaoui and Christian Louboutin himself!

And the Emmy goes to … Monique, Mendel, and Marchesa!

I was pretty pleased with what I have seen at this year’s Emmy Award Show, as many of Hollywood’s leading ladies experimented with color and fabric to make the night glamorous and memorable.  I have noticed that more of them showed off their soft and romantic side by adorning themselves in swirling ruffles, cascading tulle, soft lace and chiffon,  and decadent draping.  Who’s better to bring such romantic creations to life other than the talented Monique Lhuillier, whether it was through Drew Barrymore‘s strapless soft peach confection, Mila Kunis ‘s maroon multi-tier tulle piece, or Tina Collette‘s pink flowing ruffles.

Marchesa was another popular choice amongst the actresses, starting with Sandra Oh‘s gold beaded sheath gown with a tassel belt, then with Olivia Wilde‘s sultry light blue floral embellished gown with mesh and cutout details, and finally with Heidi Klum‘s custom-made black gown with beaded bodice and lace train.

Kate Walsh‘s crystal blue pleated strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline was one of the three J Mendel creations that graced the Emmy‘s red carpet, along with Hayden Panettiere‘s one-shouldered crimson chiffon gown, and Lindsay Price‘s plum gown with dramatic drapery.

Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa and J Mendel are available at AlOthman.
