Ready for Receptions

erdem-longsleeve

So your cousin is having a reception for her new bundle of joy and your friend is hosting a formal dinner to celebrate her engagement/promotion. I know the first thing that comes to mind is your plain little black dress, and of course it fits oh-so-elegantly. But how about investing in something different and new? We have picked out the proper looks for such event that won’t make you look over-the-top or underdressed. And since we’re going for elegant, stay away from too trendy pieces and think simple shapes in rich or neutral colors.

Our top selected piece is this stunning Erdem long puff sleeved dress with mustard yellow floral prints and delicate lace inserts (1,049 KD). Pair it with simple patent black platform pumps and a small Devi Kroell clutch.

A neutral colored dress is not negative, and it doesn’t have to be basic. Accessorize this cap sleeves dress with cute little pocket detail by Behnaz Sarafpour (729 KD) with a statement necklace and towering heels to give the right effect.

Animal Instincts: Part I

There are many animal prints to choose from this fall, and leopard designs are one of the most popular.  I usually play it safe, but this season is all about letting out your inner feline.  Adding this print to an outfit will give it that extra pop it needs to make it stylish.  It was no surprise that People Style Watch included leopard items in their list of the top 10 must-haves for fall.

You’ll also be happy to know that this investment is not short-lived, and will be going strong through next spring.  I found a mouthwatering picture of Alexander Wang’s Spring 2010 leopard wedges that confirms this fact.

Of course, leopard print has been appreciated and done by designers for many years.  This is why I took a little trip to the AlOthman Outlet to find some lovely pieces from seasons past.  To my pleasant surprise, I came across a pair of leopard peep-toes by the master himself, Mr. Christian Louboutin (available in classic gold/brown and metallic blue).

These feline stunners retail for just 64 KD at the AlOthman Outlet.

The great thing about leopard print is that once you add it to an outfit, you don’t have to do much else. Keep the colors of your look very basic (a white top with jeans or a little black dress) to really let your print take the spotlight. If you’ve chosen shoes that have open toes, nail polish hues like nude (a la Alexander Wang) or red will go perfectly.
