Slithery Foulard

Ciara in Halston2

Winter has officially begun in Kuwait … finally!

To many of us this season is all about the layering and accessorizing.  I mean you can easily put on simple black leggings with a top and still look mighty dashing the second you add a stand out scarf and/or jacket.  That’s why this Halston scarf (made of exotic python skin) looked remarkable on Ciara‘s Halston ensemble.  I would love to pair this piece with a skintight black dress and metallic sky high heels, it would be an ultimate fierce look!

The stunning Halston scarf is available in black and red at AlOthman for KD 439.

Useful Neutrals

Black, white, and beige. Who can live without them? I’ve realized that especially with shoes, it’s great to stick to a neutral color palette in order to maximize your purchase. Let’s be honest, you’ll probably wear a black pump much more than a fuchsia one. You’ll be happy that you chose a neutral colored shoe because it allows you to throw on a bright red scarf. Whatever the case, there are too many gorgeous neutrals sitting around in the outlet. The first one that I have to point out is the most basic of basic essentials. The black ballerina pump. We’re used to showcasing his heels, but this time Christian Louboutin really nailed the simple flat.

Then I saw the most unconventional grey suede wedge by Halston. First of all, it’s a winter wedge that has a closed toe. Secondly, the wedge is actually inverted with a sharp 90 degree angle in the back. Very different and definitely eye catching.

Finally, I stumbled upon a lace up bootie by Oscar de la Renta. I absolutely loved the triangular cut out detail, and lace will always be timeless to me. What do you think?

An Opulent Extra

DSC03127

For the last couple of seasons, my bags/clutches collection is growing and recently it’s having a love affair with Celestina’sevening clutches. How could I resist these retro inspired clutches crafted from natural resources, exotic leather, and crushed mirrors?!  They look great for evening, against sleek silk or smooth velvet LBD. Celestina’s unique and lavish hard clutches are an elegant way to hold all your evening essentials.

The First Lady Wears Naeem Khan

MObama3

Michelle Obama welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Signh and his wife to the White House this Tuesday night and ushered in the Obama administration’s first official state dinner. She wore an elegant strapless gown by Indian-American designer Naeem Khan for the event. Michelle chose a classic floor length cut in a subdued gold fabric and paired it with light matching shawl. Her makeup was minimalistic and her hair was in a classic updo. She managed to look completely glamorous in a feminine and sophisticated way.

There were, however, a few extra touches that really complemented the First Lady’s outfit. She chose a pair of elaborate chandelier earrings and piled glittering gold and diamond bangles high on her left arm. Her choice of Naeem Khan as a designer is also characteristic of Mrs. Obama.

Like Jason Wu, one of Michelle’s favorite designers, Naeem Khan is about to become one of the most sought after names in the business.

Naeem Khan‘s gorgeous evening creations are available at AlOthman.

This Is It Fashion Tribute

THIS IS IT

Two nights ago I watched Michael Jackson‘s “This Is It” for the second time (yes I am a huge MJ fan).  I loved everything about the movie and how it captured moments of MJ preparing to dazzle the audience with his ingenious choreography and highly creative show.  It was incredibly emotional to watch the film but it didn’t stop me from admiring the few Balmain pieces MJ donned during the concert rehearsals.  One of the blazers that I swooned over was the black one with exaggerated shoulders and white collar beautifully adorned with crystals.  This is not an actual photo from the movie but I thought the blazer looked amazing on him, and it confirms that he was the muse for Balmain‘s SS09 collection.

Yesterday I viewed Janet Jackson‘s video of her newly released single “Make me” and I was completely smitten by her Todd Lynn blazer with metallic shoulder pads.  I couldn’t help but feel that Janet drew inspiration from her brother just like Rihanna and Beyonce have when they sported Balmain ensembles, and I think it makes the video more meaningful that way.

If you haven’t had a chance to see “This Is It”, then I highly recommend you watch it on IMAX this weekend if you are not travelling for Eid.

Eid Mubarak to you all!

Shrug Your Shoulders

DSC03116

Statement necklaces? Killer heels? Cocktail ring? Been there, done that. Instead of tentatively dipping your manicured fingers and pedicured toes in the season’s “it” accessories, hoping that there won’t be a “who wore it better?” situation at your BFF’s wedding, why not try something different to shrug your shoulders with? Literally.

Peter Pilotto’s ethereal printed shrug with sculptured shoulders beautifully embellished with geometric paillettes. Wear this Peter Pilotto’s shrunken jacket over your plain evening gown or better yet, pair it with one of the designer’s sleeveless dresses but in a different print.

Peter Pilotto’s collection is available at AlOthman.

Blazed and Diffused

Kim Kardashian in Alex Wang

You can’t be over the blazer trend yet, because it’s still going strong and evolving into structured shapes and elaborate detailing.  If you don’t own a blazer yet and want to opt out of a simple one then you must go for this Alexander Wang piece with square studs on the sleeves.  The other interesting part of the Wang jacket is its opened back, giving it an interesting element of surprise.  Kim Kardashian paired her blazer with simple leggings and white top to let the blazer speak for itself.  I wish she had gone for less boring heels to complete the look, or maybe it’s just Kim boring us with her signature pose, hair, make up, and whatever it is she has going on there.

The Alexander Wang blazer is available at AlOthman for KD 329.
