English Rose

Looking at the resort’13 collections, we have been amazed by Preen. The designers colour palette, prints, and cuts are nothing but refreshing! The collection caters to both the feminine and masculine woman –feminine floral prints on edgy masculine cuts. The collection includes daily floral dresses with a dark edge, sporty shorts with a splash of color and relaxed maxi dresses.

“Sport is the other thing that went into it, I suppose,” Bregazzi said. “The idea of combining the patterns with tracksuits, sweatshirts, and bombers.” With all the Olympics buzz going around in London, and the preparations for the queen’s jubilee, the collection could not have been released at a better time. Florals and a touch of sport described London during this time in a nutshell!

“There are hydrangeas, poppies, gerberas, chrysanthemums, which we love,” said Thornton in an interview with Vogue. “But we wanted to do something nontraditional with them. So we started looking at Jeff Koons’s paintings with all those super-bright pop colors and brushstrokes dragged across them and Nick Knight’s photos of flowers.”

The prints for this collection were inspired by Jeff Koons’ bright paintings and abstract-like brush strokes. The colors he uses in his paintings are kitsch and highly saturated. His Dali-like ability to take a simple object like a hydrangea flower and blow it up into a beautiful masterpiece is definitely a talent.

Another inspiration to the collection is photographer Nick Knight. His close-ups of poppies and gerberas have made their way on Preen’s structured skirts and dresses. The darkness of his photographs has inspired the edge-factor in the collection.
