Sporting Fashion

In recent years, it is undeniable that there has been a strong pairing of fashion with sport. Not in the 1980’s manner of spandex biker shorts, velour headbands, and leg warmers; but in a modern stylish way. Ralph Lauren may have begun the marriage with his line of Polo chic menswear, but it followed through to Yohji Yamamoto designing tattoo inspired kicks, and Prada producing their nylon pouchettes. We’ve seen Stella McCartney designing for Adidas, there are now even talks of Giles being approached to design his own sportswear line. Derek Lam’s Summer 2009 collection is definitely inspired by sporting uniforms with stripes, rope ties, and drawstrings and Christian Louboutin designed a sexy version of the typical New England rubber soled sailing shoe.

Images of Vogue’s Editor and Chief and ultimate Fashion Queen, Anna Wintour, popped up at the tennis open in Miami recently. If this doesn’t solidify fashions place in sport- nothing else will.
